Adult entertainment domain names - are you protected?
The controversial new .xxx domain name extension is going live this year, earlier than the even more controversial plans for potentially unlimited new domain extensions due to be introduced in 2012.
Although intended to be restricted for use by authentic adult entertainment businesses, there is clearly a risk, as with previous launches, of abuse and cybersquatting of non-adult entertainment brands.
This e-alert focuses on the measures which non-adult entertainment businesses may want to consider taking to protect their key brands during the .xxx sunrise period. It opens on 7 September 2011 and has been extended to close on 28 October 2011 (under the current rules published on 15 July 2011). During this window, brand owners can apply to block others from registering .xxx domains corresponding to their brands.
Why should you consider taking advantage of sunrise protection?
