Simon is a partner in the Intellectual Property Department. Simon specialises in patent litigation and licensing in the pharmaceutical and other sectors, as well as doing pharmaceutical regulatory work.
Recent cases in which Simon has been involved in include:
- Acting for Amgen and Johnson & Johnson in the extensive patent litigation (High Court, Court of Appeal, House of Lords) relating to biotech product, erythropoietin.
- Acting for Merck Generics [UK] Limited in patent actions (High Court, Court of Appeal) relating to omeprazole, alendronate etc.
- Acting for Merck Generics [UK] in High Court judicial review proceedings relating to alendronate (involving the MHRA).
- Acting for Apotex Inc. (Apotex) of Canada in patent litigation against GlaxoSmithKline relating to paroxetine.
Simon obtained a BSc in Biochemistry and Genetics from London University and a Diploma in Intellectual Property Law also from London University (QMW).
He lectures and writes regularly on patent issues. Some of the publications to which he contributes are Bioscience Law Review (of which he is the UK correspondent) and Nature.
Simon was listed in "Legal Experts 2004" in his field, IP.
