Pier is a partner in the Corporate and Commercial Department of Taylor Wessing (Middle East) LLP. His practice covers corporate and corporate finance work, including private equity, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, MBOs, direct foreign investment, and general commercial work, including distributorship, franchising, agency arrangements, licensing and international trade. He has particular interest and experience in the energy, natural resources, retail, and hospitality and leisure sectors.
Pier is a member of the International Bar Association and the South African Business Council, United Arab Emirates. He has previously held directorships of various AngloGold Limited group companies, and during 2002 served as a member in charge of legal affairs of the Executive Committee of AngloGold Africa International Division. During the period 1998 to 2002, Pier acted as part-time lecturer in corporate and commercial law at the Technikon South Africa, and periodically during this period acted as external examiner for the Mercantile Law Department of the University of South Africa.
He has written several articles for prominent South and Southern African Law journals on topics ranging from private international law, international arbitration to competition law. Pier has also addressed conferences in Dubai and Singapore on issues of law of contract and doing business in the Middle East.
