Philipp provides advice in all aspects of German and European competition law, particularly in the areas of merger control, antitrust investigations, abuse of dominance and structuring of cooperation, R&D, technology transfer and distribution agreements. He represented clients in various merger control and antitrust proceedings before the German Bundeskartellamt and the EU-Commission. Philipp also has extensive know-how in the design and implementation of competition compliance programmes. He has particular experience from a large number of cases relating to the areas of chemicals, high technology, engineering, aerospace, automotive, defence, steel and consumer products. Furthermore Philipp has expertise in the structuring and negotiation of international M&A projects and joint ventures.
Philipp studied law at the Universities of Bonn, Berlin and Oxford. He passed his legal state exams in Berlin in 1998 and 2001. Philipp holds a Dr. iur. from the Technical University of Dresden and was graduated with a thesis on public international law. Philipp was legal advisor to the European Union in the economic reconstruction component of the United Nations Administration Mission in Kosovo in 2001/02. From 2003 until 2006 Philipp worked with another leading law firm in Brussels and Düsseldorf. Between 2006 and 2008 he was in-house counsel to a large German bluechip company. He joined the Düsseldorf office of Taylor Wessing in January 2009.
Philipp, a native German speaker, is fluent in English and has good knowledge of French and Russian as well as basic knowledge of Spanish.
