Dr. Michael Samer is a Certified Specialist Lawyer in Intellectual Property Law. Since 1987, he has acted in all fields of intellectual property law as well as in competition, copyright and media law. In particular, he is specialised in patent infringement litigation for domestic and international companies in all technical fields (e.g. automotive, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, electronics, mechanical engineering), and in trademark, design and copyright infringement litigation, including the coordination of multi-national litigation. He has extensively litigated before the District Court of Düsseldorf and the Higher Regional Court (Appeal Court) of Düsseldorf and other civil courts, including the European courts, and has taken part in proceedings before the Federal Patent Court in Munich, especially in nullity actions against patents.
Dr. Michael Samer read law and economics at the University of Freiburg/Breisgau and at the University of Geneva/Switzerland. He wrote his doctorate thesis on the law concerning industrial groups. He completed his legal training (Referendariat) in Hamburg, including internships at the Federal Cartel Authority in Berlin and at the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce in New Delhi.
Dr. Michael Samer is a member of the German Association for Intellectual Property Law and Copyright Law (GRUR), including its Specialist Committee for Copyright Law and the Law of Publication, the International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property (AIPPI), the European Patent Lawyers Association (EPLAW), and the European Communities Trade Mark Association (ECTA).
Apart from German as his native language, he speaks English, French, Italian and Spanish
