Michael Malitz was born in 1963 and grew up in Düsseldorf. He studied Law and Economics at the University of Cologne. He sat his First Legal State Exam in 1990 and completed the Second State Exam in 1994. Between 1990 and 1994, he was an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Cologne. He wrote his Doctorate in 1995 and was admitted to the Düsseldorf Bar in 1995.
Since then, he has practised at the Düsseldorf office of Taylor Wessing and focuses on insolvency and corporate law as well as law of succession. He became a partner in 1997 and coordinates Taylor Wessing's industry group "Insolvency and Restructuring" since 2007.
Michael has published several articles on Insolvency Law, Law of Succession and Procedural Law. He lectures on these subjects at the Deutsche Anwaltakademie and is scientific coordinatorof the insolvency meetings in Düsseldorf ("Düsseldorfer Insolventage").. Michael Malitz is a member of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Insolvenzrecht und Sanierung (DAV), the Arbeitskreis für Insolvenz- und Schiedsgerichtswesen as well as of INSOL EUROPE.
