Head of Competition, EU & Trade TWG
Marco Hartmann-Rüppel advises German and international clients on all aspects of EU and German competition law. His practice focuses on the legal representation before national and EU courts and competition authorities in antitrust and merger control proceedings, but he also advises with regard to on the structuring of co-operation (particularly technology transfer, R&D) and distribution agreements. His extensive experience also includes the implementing and controlling of competition compliance programme. Furthermore he advises on other areas of EU economic law (regulation, anti-dumping, state aid).
Marco studied law and economics in Göttingen (Germany) und Leuven (Belgium). He holds a doctorate in law (EU merger control) and a diploma in economics. After having worked as an assistant in competition law with Prof. Immenga in Göttingen and further internships in Hamburg, Berlin und Capetown (South Africa), Marco joined our Hamburg office. He is member of the Hamburg and Brussels bars.
Marco regularly publishes articles and lectures on various subjects of antitrust and merger control law. He is member of the Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht and the "GRUR". He has been a member of the technology transfer expert group of the BDI (Federation of German Industries).
He teaches merger control law at the University of Hamburg.
Marco, a native German speaker, is fluent in English and Dutch.
