Marco Hartmann-Rüppel is specialised in the field of European and German cartel law. In particular he advises on cartel summary proceedings, misuse proceedings and merger control proceedings and represents national and international clients before the Federal Cartel Authority and the EU Commission. He also has a wealth of experience in litigation before the German courts and the European Court of Justice. His practice also includes the structuring of cooperation agreements, licence agreements and distribution agreements as well as collective cartel law and the implementation of cartel law compliance programmes. The focus of his practice is advising companies and associations from the sectors of technology, media, sport, consumer goods, retail, life science and healthcare. He is a member of the Technology, Communication & Brands Industry Group and the TW Sports Group.
Marco Hartmann-Rüppel studied law, business and economics at the Universities of Gottingen and Leuven (Belgium). Following his position as competition law and cartel law research assistant to Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Immenga and further posts in Hamburg, Berlin and South Africa, he completed his dissertation on European merger control law.
Marco Hartmann-Rüppel is admitted to practise as a lawyer in Hamburg and Brussels (E-List).
He is a visiting lecturer in cartel law at the Humboldt University in Berlin.
Marco Hartmann-Rüppel regularly publishes articles and gives presentations on topics of cartel and merger control law. He is a member of the cartel law expert committee of the GRUR as well as the Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht and is a member of the ad hoc group of experts for technology transfer within the Federation of German Industry in the run-up to the group exemption regulation.
