Jan Curschmann has longstanding experience in advising his clients in matters of competition law and distribution. His areas of legal practice focus on international contracts and corporate law as well as arbitration and mediation, with particular knowledge and experience in Latin American affairs. He has participated in numerous international arbitration proceedings, both as a party representative and as an arbitrator, conducted under the rules of the ICC, the Hamburg Friendly Arbitrage, the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce and the American Arbitration Association.
After completion of his studies in Germany, Switzerland and France, Jan Curschmann undertook part of his professional training in Brazil where he completed his comparative law dissertation on the respective trademark laws of Germany and Brazil. He graduated as Dr. jur. in Hamburg in 1986. Since 1982 he has been admitted to the Hamburg bar and joined Taylor Wessing as partner in 1985.
Jan Curschmann's list of publications include the chapter on "Aspectos Legais" in the "Guia de Exportação para a Alemanha - Gateway to Europe" published in 2005 by the German-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in Sao Paulo as well as a report on the new Brazilian Companies Act published in 2006 in “Süss / Wachter: Handbuch des Internationalen Gesellschaftsrechts” and the chapter “Negotiating in Brazil” in the 3rd. edition of “Heussen: Handbuch Vertragsverhandlung und Vertragsmanagement” as published in 2007. He is the Chairman of the German-Brazilian Lawyers Association and a Board member of the German Lawyers Association, International Section.
Jan Curschmann, a native German speaker, is fluent in English, Portuguese, French and Spanish.
