Poland Group
In all likelihood, Poland is the only large European economy which has experienced growth in 2009. At the same time, Poland has established itself to be a highly attractive and stable consumer market in Central Europe compared with other countries in the region. This has led to international direct investors becoming increasingly active in Poland and some have chosen to switch their ongoing investments from neighbouring countries to Poland.
A further development in the last few years is that many middle-sized Polish companies have made their way onto the stock exchange. Such companies are of interest to overseas strategic and financial investors. The privatisation of Polish state-owned companies which have been announced for the next few years will add a further stimulus to the take-over of companies. As one of the main beneficiaries of financial aid from the EU, Poland will have at its disposal in the next few years a gigantic investment package from EU funds.
Not least of all, this funding from the EU which will help to stabilise the domestic budget of the country in the medium term. Due to the implementation of EU law, Poland has now created an investment-friendly environment, though the success of investments and transactions is often dependent upon the still bureaucratic practices of the administration and the courts.
