Music

Of all types of content, music was the first to encounter the full impact of the digital revolution.  We are ideally placed to advise both owners and users of music on all legal issues relevant to their music activities, both in the digital and the analogue environment.

We act for a wide variety of clients active in the field of music, including collecting societies, music publishers, record labels, music managers, composers and performers.  We also represent users of music, such as advertisers, film and television production companies, theatres and technology companies.

Our practice is both contentious and non-contentious.  We represent clients in relation to all types of matters involving music.  This includes copyright and licensing disputes.  We also do transactional work with clients buying and selling music companies and catalogues or licensing musical works.  We are particularly active in the digital area, where cross border licensing is usual and disputes often arise.  User generated content is an area where we have advised a wide variety of clients, be they owners or users of music or internet service providers who are caught in the middle.

We have music practitioners in all our major European offices and we work together to provide a seamless service in the territories served by those offices.
