Specialising in contentious intellectual property, advertising, and media law, Tim made his mark early by winning the Skone James Prize for his article 'The influence of the European Convention on Human Rights on Intellectual Property Rights'. Tim advises media and technology companies and other corporates, particularly UK and US.
His expertise covers designs, trade marks, passing off, copyright, and confidential information, plus advertising, defamation and privacy. His litigation experience includes High Court, Court of Appeal, UK Registry, OHIM and ASA proceedings. He helped achieve one of the first emergency injunctions under the American Arbitration Association rules, following a multi-jurisdictional video-conference hearing. Recent work has covered comparative advertising, parallel imports, user generated content/social media, patent and registered design infringement, reputation management and libel disputes.
Tim became a barrister before qualifying as a solicitor at Taylor Wessing. He has a Master's degree (LLM) with merit in international and comparative copyright and trade mark law and information technology law from University College London and a Diploma in intellectual property law from the University of Bristol. He also has a philosophy degree from King's College London.
Tim regularly gives talks. Topics include social media, advertising, reputation management and libel. His articles have been published widely, eg by The Times, Entertainment Law Review, European Intellectual Property Review and In-House Lawyer. He has appeared as an expert commentator on ITV News and been quoted in the Observer on legal issues.
Since 2005, Tim has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Intellectual Property Law & Practice (Oxford University Press). In Chambers 2012 Tim is noted for being "very conscientious, responsive, and always on the ball." He is also recognised in Legal 500 2011.
