Robert is a partner in the Corporate Tax group within the Private Client, Tax and Incentives department, with over ten years experience of advising corporate and personal clients on tax planning and structuring and the tax implications of transactions in many fields. Robert became a partner in 2009.

Robert has particular expertise in the tax aspects of funds and offshore funds, venture capital (including the EIS and VCT regimes), real estate and corporate real estate transactions (including SDLT and VAT issues and planning) private equity fund structuring and transactions and general M&A.  Robert has recently advised on:

  • the secondary buy-out of a leading provider of mobile telephone services;
  • the tax efficient structuring and implementation of three QI 2011 commercial real estate acquisitions in London for a niche property investment fund;
  • two acquisitions of UK software companies for a leading US corporation;
  • the re-organisation of the UK elements of a leading Portuguese industrial group.

He is also a regular contributor of e-briefings and updates on tax developments, is responsible for the tax elements of PLC’s Venture Capital Handbook and is the co-author of a market-leading guide to the UK corporate tax system for Belgian businesses and professionals.

Robert is a qualified solicitor and a Chartered Tax Adviser, having completed the examinations of the Chartered Institute of Tax in 2002, and holds a degree in law from Cambridge University.  He founded and now co-ordinates Taylor Wessing’s reading-partnering scheme at the St Jude’s Church of England Primary School in Southwark.
