Reinhard Gaertner has specialized in advising companies of the media and IT industries. He advises on all important legal issues relating to their operative business including, in particular, copyright, intellectual property and distribution law. Moreover, he supports enterprises of the media sector in issues of defamation law (counterstatements cease and desist, revocation and pecuniary damages).
Reinhard studied law in Mainz where he passed his state exams in the years 1980 and 1983. He is admitted to the bar since 1983. In 1984 he was awarded the doctor of law in Mainz with a thesis on antitrust law issues.
Reinhard is a member of the legal committee of the Verband Deutscher Zeitschriftenverleger (VDZ), the association of German publishers of periodicals, as well as of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Verlagsjustitiare, the study group of publishers' in-house lawyers. He regularly delivers speeches at seminars and conferences on media law issues and wrote several articles on this topic in law journals.
He is a lecturer for media law at Munich’s Ludwig-Maximilians-University. JUVE directory lists Reinhard Gaertner as a “leading name in publisher representation” and a “frequently recommended lawyer” since several years.
