Patrick is a partner in the IT, Telecoms and Competition group at Taylor Wessing and leads the firm's telecoms practice.  He recently rejoined the firm after a period of five years in-house at Alcatel-Lucent where he was Lead Corporate Counsel for both the North Europe and Vodafone Global Account Customer Units.

He has particular expertise in the area of electronic communications regulation and in structuring and advising on major commercial agreements in the telecoms sector. Clients include telecoms network operators and service providers, IT and telecoms hardware, software and service vendors and customers, and range from major international organisations to technology start-ups.

Key examples of his recent experience in the telecoms sector include:

  • Advising on a wide range of commercial agreements for IT and telecoms clients, including agreements for the sale/purchase of IT and telecoms systems, hardware, software and services, maintenance and support agreements, hosting and co-location agreements, content and rights acquisition and distribution agreements, software licensing, agreements with contractors and consultants, development agreements, commercial partnering agreements (joint ventures, distribution, agency, etc), interconnection, outsourcing and managed services agreements.
  • Regulatory advice, including in the areas of communications, broadcasting, competition, data privacy, e-commerce regulation. Particular expertise in electronic communications regulation - e.g. advising on the implementation and interpretation of EU and UK legislation for the regulation of electronic communications networks and services; consultations on new technologies and standards; telecoms license and authorisation applications and day-to-day compliance issues.
  • Advising in relation to the sale/purchase and financing of telecoms and IT companies.
