Michael provides advice in all aspects of German and European competition law, particularly in the areas of merger control, antitrust investigations, abuse of dominance and contractual competition restraints. Over many years he represented prominent clients in complex merger control and antitrust proceedings at the German Bundeskartellamt and the EU-Commission as well as in national and European Courts. His practice focuses on companies which are active in the areas of media and technology, financial services/private equity, building materials, chemicals, and leisure and consumer products. Furthermore he has specialist expertise in handling antitrust and merger control aspects involved in complex transactions and antitrust investigations related to US.

Michael studied law at the University of Bonn and PennsylvaniaLawSchool in Philadelphia, USA. He passed his legal state exams in 1997 in Bonn and 1999 in Koblenz. As a research assistant he worked for Prof. Dr. Karsten Schmidt at the institute for corporate and commercial law at the University of Bonn. He graduated under supervision of Prof. Dr. Ulrich Huber as Dr. jur. with a competition law thesis on the abuse of a dominant position on technology markets with network effects. As a trainee lawyer he spent part of his practical training in the cabinet of the German judge at the European Court in Luxemburg.

Between 1999 and 2007 Michael worked with another leading international law firm in Cologne and WashingtonD.C., before joining Taylor Wessing’s Düsseldorf office in mid 2007.

Michael is a member of the association antitrust experts. He regularly publishes articles and lectures on various subjects of antitrust and merger control law.
