Klaus Kostka is deputy coordinator of our Maritime and Transport Law Practice Department. He was admitted to the Hamburg Bar in 1994. As a lawyer, he has continued to develop his expertise with regard to movement of goods and insurance of international risks. In the transport sector, Klaus Kostka regularly represents a number of German and International Shipowning Companies as well as Marine Underwriters in the Dry and Wet sectors of Maritime Law. He has been involved in several "Disaster Cases" (losses of ships, aeroplane crash) and international mergers & acquisitions in which aspects of Insurance Law have become crucial.
Klaus Kostka studied law at the University of Münster and then completed his legal training in the cities of Kiel and Hamburg, focusing on Maritime and Transport Law, Marine Insurance and International Contracts for the supply of goods and services. Traineeships with a London law firm and a leading German group of companies in the tourism and transport sector followed. A public scholarship again took him to London to complete his Doctorate Thesis on The New International Ship Registers.
Klaus Kostka is a member of the International Bar Association and the German Association for International Maritime Law and of the German Maritime Arbitration Association. He is also an avid collector of ship photos and maritime literature.
