Klaus-Heiner Lehne was born in Düsseldorf in 1957. He studied law, physics and philosophy in Freiburg, Bonn, Berkeley, Cologne and Düsseldorf, and was admitted to the Bar in 1986. As a lawyer, he advises his clients primarily on EC-law issues.

Klaus-Heiner Lehne was a member of the German Federal Parliament from 1992 to 1994 and subsequently became member of the European Parliament. He is a member and co-ordinator of the Committee on Legal and Internal Market Affairs and spokesman of the PPE-ED party group. In addition to this, he is deputy member of the Committee on Citizens' Freedoms and Rights, Justice and Home Affairs.

From 1994 until 2001, Klaus-Heiner Lehne was vice-President of the Committee for the relations between Russia and the EU in the European Parliament. Since 2002, he has worked in the Delegation to the Maghreb-states.

In 1987, he took over the vice-presidency of the CDU in the Bergisches Land and became president of the CDU in Düsseldorf in 2003.

He worked as lecturer at the University of Münster and is now lecturer at the Universities of Düsseldorf and Cologne. He publishes numerous articles on EC- and EU-law.

In October 2003, Klaus-Heiner Lehne became Partner of our Dusseldorf office.
