Johnny Zhao is a Senior Counsel of Taylor Wessing and based in Beijing. As a Chinese corporate lawyer, he advises MNCs as well as medium-sized foreign companies in relation to their investments and various operations in China. Besides his specific focus on the pharmaceutical, real estate and retail sectors Johnny has developed a profound expertise in the automotive industry advising both OEM as well as suppliers in this field. Johnny is a specialist in M&A and corporate restructuring involving complicated cross-border and domestic transactions. His experience also extends to advising on merger control, competition compliance, corporate governance, trade issues and securitization of Chinese state-owned enterprises by means of overseas IPO.
Johnny was admitted to the Chinese bar in 1999. Prior to joining Taylor Wessing in 2003, Johnny worked at a reputable Chinese commercial law firm since 1998.
Johnny earned his law degree at the University of International Business and Economics (Beijing) in 1998 and underwent from 2002 to 2003 a government sponsored legal training program in London where he worked at one magic circle law firm in both London and Hong Kong offices.
Johnny speaks Mandarin, English and Cantonese dialect fluently.
