Hans Christoph von Rohr was born in Stettin in 1938. He studied Law and Economics at the Universities of Heidelberg, Vienna, Bonn and Kiel as well as at Princeton University (USA) as a Fulbright Scholar.
After his Second State Exam in 1967, he started his career as the Assistant to the Board at Klöckner Werke AG in Duisburg and Bremen. In 1971, he went to Klöckner & Co. in Buenos Aires. In 1974, he returned to Germany and became a partner of the trade and shipping company Fisser & v. Doornum, Hamburg. During this time, he was also a member of the Hamburg State Parliament and he was Economic Spokesman of the CDU faction in Hamburg. In 1984, von Rohr became a Member of the Board of Klöckner & Co. in Duisburg. In 1991, he became the Executive Board Chairman of Klöckner Werke AG.
From 1997 to 2002, Hans Christoph von Rohr chaired the Executive Board of the Industrial Investment Council (ICC), an institution of the federal government aiming at winning international investors for the federal German states formerly forming the GDR.
Hans Christoph von Rohr is Chairman of the "German Institute for Competition and Market Economy (FIW") in Cologne and is a member of the Board of numerous companies in Germany, the USA and in the UK. Furthermore, he is a Board member of the Economic Council of the CDU.
