Kickstarting Construction - but who gets kicked?
Since 2008, the property industry has faced extreme challenges - the worst for over 50 years. Consequently, kickstarting construction very much remains a challenge for UK real estate. As developments continue to stall, and against the backdrop of continuing economic uncertainty, the construction industry is starting to see a rise in challenges and an increase in claims as all parties try to protect their investment.
The Construction and Engineering group at Taylor Wessing invites you to our evening seminar on 19 January, during which we will take a closer look at the construction and development outlook for the UK in 2012.
Our industry experts will be on hand to highlight some of the issues to be aware of when kickstarting construction and will address what key challenges are likely to impact projects in the months ahead. During this session our experts will provide hints and practical steps on how to manage risk and most importantly on how to avoid litigation.
Topics for the seminar will include:
- an overview of the challenges with cost and delay claims from the perspective of all parties, exploring recent case law and lessons learnt;
- green issues in the built environment and how shortfalls and non-compliance may lead to potential claims; and
- an update on adjudication and other changes to Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 and the impact that this may have on the property industry over the coming months.
This seminar will be of particular interest to developers, funders, contractors and sub-contractors, property directors and construction and property professionals, in addition to those managing property portfolios. The session will be followed by drinks and will provide an opportunity for delegates to network with other professionals from across the property industry.
