Mustafa is a partner in the Corporate group. He specialises in corporate and hotel transactions, Islamic finance and advising on doing business in and with the Middle East.
Mustafa advises Middle Eastern families, Arab financial institutions and Western banks operating Islamic ‘windows’. Recent transactions include structuring a global hotel group (including operational, asset management, intellectual property/branding and real estate divisions) for a Middle Eastern family. He is also the author of Taylor Wessing’s Family Business Passport a concise and practical guide for the owners of family businesses.
Mustafa has advised the Islamic Financial Services Board (the global standard setting body) on regulatory issues and Islamic insurance and has advised on a number of group restructures and private equity transactions for clients in the Middle East and Far East doing business in or with Europe.
Mustafa also specialises in structuring commercial products and services that meet both Shariah and conventional legal and market requirements. He has extensive experience in interacting productively with Shariah committees, has presented at numerous international Islamic finance conferences and seminars and contributed to three textbooks on Islamic finance as well as having written for Legal Week, The American Journal of Islamic Finance, The Muslim Lawyer and The Islamic Banker amongst other publications. Mustafa has a Masters degree in law from University College London and has completed secondments in Singapore and Kuwait.
In 2011 Mustafa was included in the definitive list of young private wealth lawyers, Top 35 Under 35, published by Private Client Practitioner.
