Joe is a senior associate in the Real Estate Disputes group.
Joe acts for a variety of clients ranging from individuals, real estate companies and developers to pension funds and multi-national businesses. He has experience of dealing with a wide variety of disputes in relation to both leasehold and freehold land including: lease renewals, restrictive covenant disputes, rights of light disputes, dilapidations claims, service charge disputes, professional negligence claims, adverse possession claims, contested rent reviews and real estate issues that arise in insolvency situations.
In addition, Joe assists clients with risk management advisory work to seek to avoid disputes at an early stage. This is often in the context of the exercise of break options, and in advance of lease end generally, but also during the life of a lease where issues relating to consents and alienation can arise.
Joe’s recent experience includes:
- advising landlords and tenants on general management issues such as consent to assign, underlet and carry out alterations;
- providing advice to developers regarding vacant possession strategies;
- acting for both landlords and tenants in substantial dilapidations claims;
- acting for a claimant landlord in a contested service charge dispute;
- providing advice on contested rent review matters;
- acting for the claimant in a High Court claim that the landlord unreasonably withheld consent to assignment of lease;
- acting for LPA Receivers in a High Court claim for specific performance of terms contained in a lease.
Joe is a member of the Property Litigation Association.
