Alistair is a partner in the Real Estate group and head of Planning & Environment. He has a Master of Laws in Planning from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, and was elected as a Legal Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute in 2003.
He works with clients on their major developments and infrastructure projects taking into account the effects on the environment, the need for environmental assessment, climate change and the need for adaptation, and the incorporation of cleantech into the design and operation of buildings.
Examples of his recent experience include:
- acting for a major south east airport on passenger and air traffic capacity enhancements and the related road and rail infrastructure improvements, and the sustainability strategies in relation to energy, water and waste;
- advising the Promoter for an energy project (a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project) in England and Wales including the upstream and downstream infrastructure, consultation strategies, environmental statement and economic impact report;
- acting for one of London's largest waste transfer operators and advising on all of its planning and environmental matters including site set up and site relocation issues;
- acting for the owners of a group of listed buildings (Grade II* and Grade II) on their extensive renovation, refurbishment and new build proposals;
- planning advice and negotiation of planning and highways agreements for the development of a major mixed use development in West London including two hotels, offices, community space, residential properties (flats, maisonettes and houses) and underground parking;
- acting for commercial and residential developers in and around London and the South East, including negotiations with Transport for London;
- advising funders of major developments in the City of London;
- advising institutional clients in relation to their forward funding of retail development, warehouse schemes and office schemes in the South East and North West;
- advising the institutional lender on the planning liabilities and compulsory purchase order compensation related to 6 motorway service area developments in Administration; and
- acting for the Trustees of a lawn tennis club in its negotiation with a national house builder for the sale of the site, and the relocation strategy and planning applications for the relocation of the site to a new 21st Century facility.
