Michael Baumhauer is a member and the German head of the Projects practice area.
Michael specialises in legal advice, project management and contract drafting in international industrial plant construction throughout the lifecycle of large-scale projects, from the precontractual development and planning phase through the negotiation and conclusion of the associated contracts to project implementation and execution including the warranty phase.
A special focus of his activities is on maritime plant construction. Michael boasts many years of experience in shipbuilding. He has represented both shipyards and shipowners in connection with the construction of mega yachts and in the sector of construction of special ships (cruise ships, naval vessels, crane vessels) and in particular in numerous offshore technology projects (offshore tugboats, installation ships, transformer platforms, residential platforms). Michael has also advised on a number of major projects in the offshore oil and gas industry (oil rigs, living quarters, FPSOs).
Moreover, Michael has been involved in the drafting of contracts for installation in the renewable energies sector and overall in the handling of plant construction projects (project and claims management). He has an excellent track record in litigation both in international arbitral proceedings and before ordinary courts of law.
Michael Baumhauer has been a lawyer since 1983. He is a member of the Legal Division of the German Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries Association (VSM), the Legal Division of the Federation of German Industry (BDI), and the German Maritime Arbitration Association (GMAA).
Michael is a German native speaker. He is fluent in English and has a good oral and written command of French.
