Taylor Wessing and Wonder Welders

We support the Wonder Welders charity in Tanzania.  Many of the workers at this charity are adult polio victims, who were previously begging on the streets of Dar es Salaam.  With the help of training from a local welding expert and the support of big companies in Dar donating their scrap metal, a welding workshop was established producing ornamental animals, birds, boats and jewellery to be sold locally.

Over the past three years, the number of disabled people working on the project has increased and it has now expanded to include a handmade recycled paper project, wooden toys, natural handmade soaps and recycled glass bottle beads.   The sales of these items in the shop in Dar es Salam sustain the project financially and pay the members a living salary enabling them to support themselves and their families.  Future plans include helping more polio victims, exporting the products and exhibiting overseas.

Our congratulations to Paul Joynson Hicks, the founder of Wonder Welders who has been awarded an MBE for his work for the charity. Paul is the son of Viscount Crispin Brentford formerly a partner with Joynson Hicks and subsequently Taylor Joynson Garrett.
