Corporate Social Responsibility

People First. We are committed to being a socially responsible firm. We believe that a fundamental part of measuring our success is the difference we make to the lives of the people in our community - internally and externally - and beyond.

Forward Thinking. We take an innovative and pro-active approach to tackling the needs of our community, and we are ambitious in the way in which our initiatives are developed. Our initiatives focus on the areas of: the environment; legal pro bono; charity and the arts.

We believe we can make a difference.

Community Initiatives and Charities

Our policy and strategy has developed over recent years to focus on:

  • promoting education and opportunity in our local community;
  • encouraging involvement of TW people in community and charity organisations, whether through the firm or in their local communities;
  • providing funds and support for ordinary people doing extraordinary things rather than projects already receiving general public support or funding.

Current charity partners: Kids Company, St Mungo’s, Future First and Wonder Welders

Make a difference scheme

Each member of staff has one day during the year to be able to get involved in the firm’s community and charities initiatives. This year opportunities will be through Kids Company, St Mungo’s and the NPG.

Volunteering at St Jude’s Primary School

We have developed a relationship with a local school, St Jude's, which is across the river from our London office.

Fundraising and other activities

Taylor Wessing organises events throughout the year to raise funds for our charities and the Princes Trust.

Educational Prizes

Taylor Wessing also gave £1,500 this year in prizes for excellence to students who take part in Future First programmes.

Taylor Wessing Staff Donations

Anyone at Taylor Wessing may make an application to the charities committee for a donation to support a charity in which they have a personal interest. The aim of these donations is to support and encourage the commitment made by our people on an individual basis to their communities.

Emergencies and Appeals

Taylor Wessing also actively supports disasters and emergencies as and when they arise eg the Japanese Tsunami appeal and the Haiti Appeal.

Pro Bono

Every week we hold a legal advice clinic as part of the LawWorks Clinics Network.

Environment

We have a strong environmental commitment and have set ourselves strict targets to reduce our firm-wide carbon footprint. Read about the steps we’ve taken.

The Arts

  • National Portrait Gallery Photographic Portrait Prize
  • Young Vic: Taylor Wessing is pleased to be able to support outreach programmes between the Young Vic and St Mungo’s
  • Taylor Wessing Photopgraphy competition: each year Taylor Wessing staff are asked to get creative and enter pictures into a competition where the best images are chosen to appear in the Taylor Wessing desk calendar.

Diversity

  • Diversity at Taylor Wessing means valuing everyone as an individual.
  • The remit of the firm’s Diversity Group is to ensure our recruitment, retention and employee engagement strategies help us remain an inclusive place to work.
  • We actively encourage more candidates from a broader range of backgrounds to apply to our graduate recruitment programme.
